【我谷盆(わがたぼん)について】
江戸時代頃から加賀市を流れる大聖寺川の上流にあった我谷村(わがたむら)で栗の木で作られていた木地盆です。木目に対し垂直に並ぶ力強い鑿跡(のみあと)が特徴です。
【About Wagata Trays】
These wooden trays were made from chestnut wood in Wagata Village, located upstream of the Daishoji River in Kaga City, during the Edo period. They are characterized by strong chisel marks that run perpendicular to the wood grain.
【お取り扱いについて】
我谷盆の表面には 灰汁、柿渋、鉄しょうなどを塗布しています。
作り立てのお盆は色落ちする場合があります。
栗の木はタンニンを多く含むので、濡れた包丁など鉄製品を置くと黒く色が変わります。
水洗いをした際は、よく拭いて日陰で乾かして下さい。
輪染みなどが気になる方は、予めクルミオイル、亜麻仁油、蜜蝋などを布に塗り、余分な油を拭き取ってご使用下さい。
【Handling Instructions】
The surface of the Wagata tray is coated with lye, persimmon tannin, and iron oxide.
Newly made trays may fade in color.
Chestnut wood contains a lot of tannin, so placing wet knives or other iron products on it will cause it to turn black.
When washing with water, wipe thoroughly and dry in the shade.
If you are concerned about ring stains, apply walnut oil, linseed oil, or beeswax to a cloth beforehand, wipe off any excess oil, and then use.
